Provided in partnership with WIMBA
What Are Custom Orthotics?
WIMBA custom orthotic braces are specially designed supports tailored to your pet's individual anatomy and mobility needs. Whether your pet is recovering from injury, managing a chronic condition, or living with a neurological disorder, orthotics offer non-surgical support to aid stability and function.
These devices are created using advanced 3D scanning technology and crafted for a precise, comfortable fit — helping your pet move more easily and with less pain.

When Might an Orthotic Help?
Custom orthotics may be beneficial for pets with:
Ligament injuries (e.g. cruciate disease)
Joint instability or deformities (e.g. carpal hyperextension)
Cervical or atlanto-axial instability
Neurological weakness (e.g. knuckling)
Post-operative support
Rehabilitation Therapy (variety of uses)
Arthritis or degenerative joint disease
They can be used short-term to aid recovery or long-term for ongoing mobility support.
How it Works?
Referral – Your primary vet refers your pet to Firefly for orthotic assessment.
In-Home Evaluation – We visit your pet at home for a comprehensive mobility and gait assessment.
3D Scanning – A precise scan (including measurements & photos) is taken for WIMBA to design a fully customised device.
Manufacturing – The orthotic is created and delivered within approximately 2–3 weeks.
Fitting & Follow-Up – We return to fit the device and provide support as your pet adjusts.
Why Firefly + WIMBA?
At Firefly, we understand how much mobility impacts quality of life. Our integrative approach combines modern veterinary insight with compassionate, home-based care. By working with WIMBA, we bring cutting-edge orthotic technology directly to your pet — no stressful travel or clinic waits required.
We're here to give you and your pet access to more options — especially if surgery may not be suitable due to other pre-existing health conditions. We also recommend checking with your pet insurance provider, as some plans may contribute toward the cost of vet-recommended orthotic devices.
Together, we will help you and your pet feel supported, empowered, and ready to move forward.
Artek’s Story
My own dog, Artek, the smiley lovable Samoyed, sustained a carpal hyperextension injury that resulted in ligament damage and early arthritis. His long recovery included stem cell therapy and laser treatment. While he has made a fully recovery from the injury, he was fitted with a custom WIMBA brace that he still wears today for support.
Watching Artek return to his pain-free playful nature through this integrative approach was a powerful reminder of how much these tools can change lives. His journey inspires the care I bring to every patient and family.
It’s not just about physical support — it’s about freedom, comfort, and a return to the joyful everyday moments.
FAQs
Can any pet wear an orthotic?
Most dogs and some cats can benefit, depending on their condition and temperament. We will assess suitability during the initial consult.
Are they comfortable?
Yes. The materials are lightweight, padded, and designed for wearability. Gradual introduction and guidance are key.
How long does it take?
From referral to fitting, most devices are ready in 2–3 weeks.
Will my pet need physiotherapy too?
In many cases, yes. Orthotics work best as part of a broader mobility programme. We’ll guide you through the options and together with your own vet and other paraprofessionals like physiotherapists, help create a unique comprehensive care plan tailored to your pet.
