ACUPUNCTURE

An ancient evidence-based therapy that uses fine needles along meridian lines to ease pain, stimulate natural healing, and restore balance in your pet’s body.

How does Acupuncture work?

A traditional Chinese medicine modality, acupuncture is the use of thin sterile needles on different points throughout the body to initiate changes in the soft tissue and nerve pathways. These changes are believed to activate and normalise homeostasis and promote self-healing within the body.

Following the body’s natural meridian lines, it addresses both symptoms and underlying imbalances. It is especially useful for long-term conditions like arthritis, chronic pain, or neurological issues.
As part of an integrative approach, it complements traditional veterinary care and is well tolerated by most pets.

The main benefits of acupuncture are:

  • Release of physical and emotional stress

  • Activation of immune and anti-inflammatory mechanisms

  • Acceleration of tissue healing

  • Pain relief secondary to endorphin and serotonin release

Acupuncture Can Help With:

  • Chronic pain – arthritis, hip dysplasia, or back issues

  • Mobility problems – including stiffness, weakness, or lameness

  • Neurological conditions – like nerve injuries or intervertebral disc disease (IVDD)

  • Post-surgical recovery – to support healing or reduce reliance on medication

  • Age-related changes – including cognitive decline, reduced activity, discomfort, or poor circulation

  • Anxiety and internal imbalance – when stress or organ dysfunction affects wellbeing

It’s suitable for senior pets, those sensitive to medications, or animals needing gentle, ongoing support. Many owners find that their pets become more comfortable, mobile, and emotionally settled with regular acupuncture.

Your Pet’s First Visit

During your first appointment, we take the time to get to know your pet in the comfort of their own home. We’ll review their history (including your vet’s referral), observe how they move, and gently assess their physical and energetic wellbeing.

The acupuncture session itself is quiet and calm. Your pet can sit, stand, or lie down wherever they feel most relaxed. Most pets tolerate the fine needles well — many even nap during treatment.

We’ll work with you to create a personalised treatment plan based on your pet’s needs, comfort level, and response.

  • Sessions may last 30-45 minutes

  • It can also be combined with other treatment modalities like laser therapy, massage and PEMF

What about Electro-Acupuncture?

In some cases, we may recommend electro-acupuncture — a technique where a gentle, low-level current is applied between specific acupuncture points.

This method enhances the effects of traditional acupuncture by increasing stimulation to nerves and muscles, making it particularly useful for:

  • Neurological conditions (e.g. IVDD, paralysis, nerve injury)

  • Severe or long-standing pain

  • Muscle atrophy or weakness

Electro-acupuncture is safe, well-tolerated, and always tailored to your pet’s comfort level. The sensation is mild and calming.

Why Offer It at Home?

Many pets — especially those who are elderly, anxious, or in pain — feel safest at home.
By providing acupuncture in your pet’s familiar environment, we reduce stress and allow them to fully relax into the session.

No car journeys, no clinic smells, no noisy waiting rooms. Just quiet, compassionate care right where your pet is most at ease.

In-home treatment also gives us the chance to observe your pet in their natural space, helping us tailor care even more precisely to their needs.
